TDD September Show&Tell

It was a wonderful Saturday meeting this weekend! We had a good attendance, good meeting, a great time talking, visitors, some fabric pillaging, and many beautiful dolls to see!

This is Jean's lovely lady.

 

She always does beautiful beadwork.

Laurie brought the Hobbit Lady costume she made for a recent convention. It wouldn't have done justice to the dress to photograph it laying on the table, so we're just highlighting the parasol & hat. (She has dozens of pictures on her Facebook, if you're a friend and would like to see more.)

And she bought some goodies at the convention & brought them to show.

Our little Anna made this adorable doll for her new nephew (niece?) She has a goal to make one doll a month.

Jack showed us the thank-you gift Pam made for him for filling in as treasurer this summer.

More Show & Tell!

Welcome to part 2 of our August Show & Tell.

 

 

Doreen brought some interesting characters she met at a recent doll conference.

They were purchased, won, or given as table favors. (I don't remember which was which).

Doreen made the next doll in the workshop (and I think the little peapod baby above, but don't hold me to that...I get busy taking pictures and often miss the presentation).

The attachments on her wrist are to make her arms move, like a marionette.

 

The dolls "legs" are a stick to hold while moving the arms, so I wasn't able to stand her up for a picture.

 Connie is working on an angel. She's all done but for the wings.

 She's made from a compilation of patterns & inspirations.

For example, the body is a pattern included in one of Patti Culea's books. The arms & hands are from the recent Arley Berryhill "Siren" pattern.

 

Her coiffure is also inspired from the Siren class. Her outfit is a free-form design from fabric scraps on-hand, as inspired by Sherry Goshon's teaching and her wings will be constructed as per an online tutorial by Jean Bernard!

 

The meeting wrapped up with a short program given by Annie on how to cover these clear acrylic shoes. We each left with a pair of shoes & a pattern. Our Dames are always so generous with their talents and materials!

TDD August Show & Tell

 

We have some beautiful & unique dolls to show this month!

 

Shirley brought a charming felt trio she purchased at an estate sale.

 

 

Little Anna continues to grow in her sewing skills! She made this cutie-patootie for a soon-to-be-born little niece.

 

Laurie brought an extraordinary amigurumi Dr Who with TARDIS that her sister made. Isn't this amazing?!

 

Nark brought this summer-cheery doll she made in a workshop awhile back (but the teacher & pattern escapes me at the moment).

 

And Jayne has finished her Siren-Mermaid from our Arley Berryhill workshop!

 She was worth the wait; so pretty and such beautiful beading.

Late Arrivals!

Shauna wasn't able to attend the meeting but she emailed a picture of her latest creation. There's a story to this doll. Check out Shauna's blog here.

Remember waaaay back in 2011 when Barbara Schoenoff taught a workshop on her Anneal pattern? You know, the beautiful Steampunk Siren? Well, Connie's "siren" came out with feet that looked like they belonged to the Wicked Witch of the West. Poor Anneal has been shoeless since then as her maker moved on to other projects and forgot about her poor tootsies. She had even found a broken pair of Christmas ornament boots on clearance, but put them aside til she figured out how to repurpose them into something fashionable.

Recently, unable to bear looking at that poor doll's sock-covered boats any longer, Connie got out the boots and painted them black. She then proceeded to do an amputation & stuffed the much tinier feet into the boots.

She covered the broken tops with a bit of zipper and pieces of an old leather glove that had also been used to make Anneal's gloves.

Add some Steampunk accessories and our girl is now standing proud!

 

Yeah, baby, these boots were made for walkin'.....! And you know how the rest of that song goes!

July Show & Tell

July+Summer+Thoughts of the Beach+By the Ocean = Mermaids! We have another finished mermaid from our spring workshop and she's a beauty!

 

Sherry did a lot of embellishing with beads and sequins.

 

She's also working on her entry for the Hoffman Challenge. We were excited to see the work in progress.

 

Shirley brought the Princess & the Pea, from the pattern by Cindee Moyer.

 

Notice in her hand the pea that's been causing her to toss & turn!

 Almost missed getting a picture of Nark's whimsical cutie.

Our littlest dollmaker, Anna, brought some newlyweds. She is cranking out dolls like a pro!

She's also on a winning streak - this is the 3rd month in a row she's won the door prize, a handmade pair of doll boots by Carlyn. (Aren't they amazing?!)

Speaking of shoes....Jean has been busy making table favors for the upcoming doll conference.
